The Artisan’s Edge
At Rivershore we support people who live with developmental disabilities as they pursue and achieve a meaningful life. This includes the opportunity to participate in activities that you truly enjoy. Rivershore’s Day Habilitation Without Walls (WOW) resulted from the dreams of a group of people who wished to pursue their art on a regular basis and more consistently integrate it into their lives. Rivershore’s WOW service for artists with developmental disabilities in Niagara County is unique when compared to other opportunities currently available in our region, and will provide a truly meaningful service that is closely aligned with the valued outcomes of each participant.
The Artisan’s Edge “WOW” approach will offer each participant the opportunity to explore art and cultural activities throughout the Niagara region. Participants will fully experience opportunities for artistic expression in the community that reflect their personal preferences. Depending on a person’s interest, instruction and lessons are available from artists working in the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) in Niagara Falls, or other parts of the county. The NACC is currently home to more than 75 artists and art groups. Participants will be able to access the resources and talents of these artists, many of whom teach and provide instruction. Members of the group will be able to spend a portion of their day learning from skilled artists in their medium of choice, such as painting, sculpting or photography. Exposure to world class museums such as the Albright-Knox in Buffalo, or the Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University will also be available.
Opportunities are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and on certain evenings and weekends for shows and special events. Transportation is provided.
